Tsagaris Family

10 years ago I entered this family not knowing it would lead me here.  When I met my husband's family, I found out that his father had been diagnosed with Parkinsons when my husband was a teenager.  He was no longer able to work so everyone in the family worked together to pay the bills and be there to care for George.  I was in college at the time and was very fortunate to spend time with George.  He was very smart, loved to watch the news, was very witty and had an infectious laugh.  As time has progressed, so has his disease.  He went from doing just about everything on his own to not being able to move, speak or eat.  He now lives in a nursing home and his wife, Eleni,is by his bedside daily.  Despite his inability to move or speak, the love he has for her shines as bright in his eyes as it does in hers.  Their strength to remain at each others side is truly inspiring.

I know that one day that couple may be my husband and I.  It could be one of our three children or someone in our family.  Parkinson's has already claimed the lives of George's brother and his father.  Our children are very aware of what Parkinsons is.  We visit George when everyone is well and they see what he and the family go through.  When we told them about Team Fox and what they have done for the MJFF, they were inspired.  Our 5 year old twins said " Mommy, you can bake cupcakes and we can sell them for money.  We can give that money to the doctors so they can give medicine to Papou(George) and he can feel better.  Then Yia Yia(Eleni) will be happy!"

So this is where our mission begins.  We will kick off our fundraising efforts with a bake sale and take it from there.  We appreciate you visiting our page and helping us by supporting the MJFF.

UPDATE:  We lost George Sr. On Father's day to PD this year.  This disease has affected my life so much that every time I get an email from MJFF, I can't help but tear up.  George Jr. And I remain committed to raising funds and awareness for PD.  I won't give up until we find a cure!

Five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease - a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure for Parkinson's disease.
