The REALLY Big Year!

This is a REALLY BIG YEAR!  The Birkie turns 40; I turned 60; and this will be Birkie 25, for me.

The 40th American Birkebeiner will be held February 23, 2013.  There will be 10,000 participants skiing the Birkie, Korteloppet, Prince Haakon, and Barnebirkie.  I will be skiing the 54km Birkie Classic, from the Cable Union Airport (near Telemark Resort) to Main St. Hayward, WI.

I am again skiing in honor of my sister Barb who is involved in her own race with Parkinson's Disease.  Last year you helped to raise $6,940 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.  Team Fox members and you contributors assisted in funding a search for a cure for PD, in the amount of over $6.2 million.

My Birkie 24 started under a snowy grey sky and finished in brilliant sun.  I can't properly describe the feeling when I crowned the top of Duffy's Hill to see Hayward 4k in the distance, knowing what we accomplished.  Barb was hospitalized two weeks before the race, but she was able to follow my trek via Race my Race, online, wearing her Birkie pin.

The public address announcer said it all at the start of last year?s race when he said, "in 20 seconds you will start what you have been training for all year."  There is not a day that goes by I don't think about Birkie Day and that a cure will be found for PD.

I appreciate your help. I am truly honored by your support.  I have stopped making requests of my friends and relatives for other fundraisers, throughout the year.  This is my one time request.  I hope to surpass last year's collections, but any amount is appreciated.  I pledge to you to work as hard as possible and ski to the best of my ability.  The following is a great video prepared by Team Fox.  Take note of the skier at 0:43 of the video:

One of the Birkie slogans from Birkie 35 lives on, "Feel the Energy, Live the Dream".

Thank you for your help,
