Five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease - a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure for Parkinson's disease.
About Team Fox
Team Fox is The Michael J. Fox Foundation's (MJFF) grassroots community fundraising program. It is made up of thousands of people worldwide who raise funds and awareness for Parkinson's disease research. All funds raised through Team Fox go directly to MJFF to further its mission to accelerate the delivery of life-changing treatments, and ultimately a cure, to people with Parkinson's disease.
Major Humphrey King Hastings retired from the Air Force after 20 years service to his country. He was born and raised in the Carolinas. In 1957 he married Eppie, raised 4 children and has 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He's always been active in the community and church activities. King was an avid hiker, bicyclist, scout leader and loved the great outdoors. King and Eppie hiked the Appalachian Trail and explored southern Utah extensively. He taught Eppie to ride a bike and they biked across the United States. Together King and Eppie volunteered for the BLM and Forest Service in Southern Utah and Washington before finally retiring in 2011.
King started having difficulty writing and his gait had changed in 1995. At the time he was battling prostate cancer and abnormal mass in his brain. His doctors were too busy with his illnesses before looking at the possibly of Parkinson's. This did not slow King as he continued living and traveling the world. Today King continues to volunteer at his church in Aurora, Colorado, walks his beloved dog and working on his computer. Parkinson's Dementia has started to effect his concentration and short term memory.
King is getting depressed because of his disease and I want to show my grandfather that I will be there for him no matter what. In November I will be running the New York Marathon in honor of my grandfather with my mother Marty Smith, King's oldest child. My goal is to raise $5000.00 for the Micheal J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research. Your donation will help me reach my goal and support my grandfather retired Major Humphrey King Hastings.
Help us speed a cure for Parkinson's!
