John Shaw's NYC Marathon Page

Friends and Family,

**UPDATE  Thank you for helping me achieve my fundraising goal!  This is a great charity and I say let's lift the roof on this one and see how much money we can raise for the Fox foundation! **

After running the Hartford half-marathon in the fall I have made the decision to try a full marathon.  The decision to run is partly based on setting a good example for my kids as I ask so much of them through their academics and sports it just seems fitting that I be something more than the sideline shouter (or sideline cowbeller as some know me by).  Partly based on seeing where my fitness level is (it would be nice to beat my wife's marathon time but I can't ask for everything!) and partly based on fighting the aging process...I will not go gently into that good night.  The decision to run New York was chosen because of its incredible city support.  I have joined up with Team Fox to give purpose to my run that may appeal more to others as we all seem to know someone who is affected by Parkinson's.  I grew up watching Michael J Fox on Family Ties and he didn't disappoint when I met him a few years back...very casual, laid back, just another guy.  Best part about Michael's foundation is that through his connections he is making great research inroads and now through an anonymous donor 100% of 2014 Team Fox donations will be channeled directly to research.

Below is some information on the Parkinson's and the Fox foundation.

Five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease - a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure for Parkinson's disease.

About Team Fox

Team Fox is The Michael J. Fox Foundation's (MJFF) grassroots community fundraising program.  It is made up of thousands of people worldwide who raise funds and awareness for Parkinson's disease research.  All funds raised through Team Fox go directly to MJFF to further its mission to accelerate the delivery of life-changing treatments, and ultimately a cure, to people with Parkinson's disease.

Help us speed a cure for Parkinson's!
